ART/X/TOYAMA (MAY 2010) INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITION, JAPAN
The artist was invited to represent the U.K. with artists from China, Korea, Russia, France, Germany, Turkey and artists from Japan. The contemporary exhibition had a variety of international styles, with an international art symposium with the artist representatives and artist's talks with respected critic Shinichi Segi, plus workshops. Thomson's diptych oils on disintegrating, excerpted manmade structures in coastal and central Highland Scotland with combined spontaneity and eternal space influenced by Japanese Haiku and Waka such as Saigyo, were chosen as the feature wall of the show. "It was a great experience, meeting talented artists committed to making strong work." Thomson also met and studied with calligrapher Wakabayashi several times.
